After being at the athletics carnival for two days, it was
nice to be back in Bribie with all the teachers. It was also nice to see the
students that ive been getting to know. As far as classes, it was a usual
Tuesday with weight room, rugby and binge drinking class.
I started binge drinking class with a power point on alcohol
and consent and alcohol and violence. It is part of their final assignment and
I felt that it was important to spend some time talking about each. I then gave
them a mini assignment that answered 10 questions. Each questions was a slide
and ultimately this assignment would help them with their final paper. As they
finished these slides, we gave out the final assignment. The students have a
600 word writing assignment based on research and class about binge drinking.
They get the next 4 weeks to do the assignment in class and outside of class. I
was shocked when I heard this because we would never get this much time to do
such a small assignment in New York. And on top of that, we usually never get
assignments less than four pages. These students are not used to doing work and
complain about writing anything so Cameron said that as easy as it is, there
are always student who fail. Sometimes I wish I could transport these students
to a New York classroom where they have to take notes the whole time.
